Installing the Shower.....Finishing the Upstairs Bathroom

After living in our house for seven weeks we finally have a second shower, just as we were finally getting into the routine of only having one :) The plan was to have it installed before we moved in but that didn’t exactly happen, then we planned to have it in a week or two after we moved in, but that didn’t take place either. Finally we made it top priority on Andrew’s list; we took him away from siding and gave him a serious deadline….company’s coming to spend the night we must have another shower! So we finally have another completed bathroom in fixtures that is, this one still needs a cabinet, trim and it seriously needs a door for the hot water heater; that is not exactly pretty looking:) The biggest job to the whole room, the shower….looking at all of the above one afternoon rather concerned Andrew. An employee of Lowes told him that this was their easiest shower to install; but all the instructions included makes you wonder. The manual (which is rather thick) has 4 to 5 different languages so it took Andrew a few minutes to find English and read rather detailed instructions. Then there’s an extra sheet with steps they forgot or found they had to add after the manual was printed, and to top it all off there’s a large poster/sheet they tell you to “post on your wall for easy reference”. It was sounding very complicated!




I must admit that here I made a funny joke and Andrew dropped “goop”, as he calls it, on his pants. He wasn’t too pleased till he remembered I got to clean them:)
Here Andrew was all but pulling his hair out:) maybe it’s the "easiest shower to install", but the instructions matched the difficulties. The instructions were consulted a lot during the whole process, it was not unusual to see Andrew sitting in a recliner with his nose buried in the instruction manual. Andrew does say that if he had to put another one together it would be much easier since he has now done one….maybe it’s not that difficult after all:)
 


As Andrew was installing some striping that was included, he stated that they needed to add another extra sheet of steps. They actually didn’t give any instructions on this so he had to make a guess. It must have been a correct guess as both pieces fix exactly and nothing is leaking:)
The shower is not quite as big as it looks here. In fact we were rather surprised with the size of it; it’s actually not very big but should work well for us.

 The above scene is typical up here in Ohio, although this year was unsually warm and not much snow. Just a few weeks ago we had around an inch of snow, in April! But the 60's and 70's have come and we are so enjoying the beautiful weather. It did get very cold here for a few weeks, I was about ready to go back south when I went to school and it felt like -15! It was sooo cold!! We had one big snow in February, I had never seen so much snow in one spot before! The snow piles were almost as big as the buildings! Wedding Pictures Part Three/Reception

Our cooks and kitchen helpers did a wonderful job at our reception! James and Rose Miller did a amazing job as our reception coordinators. It was an honor to have the couple I lived with while teaching, come to my wedding and have part! This dear lady has had such an impact on my life, and she too had a part in my wedding. Barbra Kauffman did a beautiful job on our cake, plus it tasted so good!! The topper on the cake has a story to it....the first time Josiah alluded that he loved me was when we were in a gift shop. There were many plaques I was enjoying looking at, and he found one that had the saying "love you to the moon and back" and said he should buy it for me. Later that night he told me his true feelings about me, and weeks later he gave me a plaque with that quote on it. I have loved that quote ever since! Our servers were a great set of people! I...

Anniversary Trip

For our first wedding anniversary we decided to take a big trip up north. I have always wanted to see the north eastern states and Prince Edward Island in Canada, and Josiah has a plan to visit all the 48 states that are together in his lifetime. So we planned a trip to hit all the key places along the way. I chronicled the trip in photos and picked the best to share on here. The above and below photo was are first stop, Horseshoe Bend in Altoona, PA. This site had some family ties and Josiah has always wanted to see it. His great-grandfather helped to build this track around the bend during the depression. Walking everyday for two hours to earn money! Now it is amazing to be standing there seeing and feeling the effects of a train on three sides of you. You can pay to go up by the track, but since we were passing through we decided to enjoy the entire view from the parking lot. Our next stop that day was Philadelphia.
